American Institute of Physics (Branding)

Challenge

AIP has been a leading voice in the physics community for over 90 years, with a mission to advance, promote, and serve the physical sciences for the benefit of humanity. In preparation for a period of transformation, they reorganized to create an in-house marketing and communication department built on an agency model. Recognizing that they were missing crucial agency experience, I was brought in for my expertise and guidance.

Solution

By adapting fundamental best practices to fit the unique environment of AIP, I established a more creative, collaborative, and efficient creative services department. Core initiatives that I implemented included creating creative review standards, ensuring consistency in brand review, implementing digital asset management, and establishing a project request and management process.

In 2020, we embarked on a rebranding initiative to create a distinctive presence for AIP in the physical sciences community. The new brand was launched in September 2022, and the results have been overwhelmingly positive. The new brand has generated increased engagement on social media, with a 30% increase in followers and a 50% increase in engagement.

In my role at AIP, I oversee the ongoing brand rollout and lead the marketing and communication team of content creators, copywriters, designers, and developers. This involves creating, implementing, and ensuring brand compliance on both internal and external communications.
